2001: A Space Odyssey
The HAL 9000 computer, or just plain old HAL, will go down as one of the most famous robots of all time. HAL was simple and haunting – just a voice and a red light – and this film influenced movies of every genre that came after it.
The Terminator
The Terminator brought us a pop culture icon and a healthy (or unhealthy) fear of automation. While most of us aren’t too worried about time-traveling killer robots, there are plenty of people who truly believe that a Skynet situation is well underway.
Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Really any of the movies from the Star Wars franchise could be included in a list of best robot movies. The original Star Wars movie makes the cut because it introduces us to two of the most recognizable robots in all of cinema history: C-3PO and R2-D2.
Blade Runner
To be fair, replicants aren’t truly robots. They are “biorobotic androids”. Definitely no servo motors here. This is still a great robot movie and an important film in the science fiction genre.
Wall-E
Not all robot movies are family-friendly, but Wall-E fits the bill. Plus, it’s a good flick in its own right. It’s chock-full of life lessons like the importance of human connectivity, environmental stewardship, and living a purposeful life.
